Visitation

We encourage parent involvement in their children’s education. We also value children’s ability to grow independently from their parents in a school environment. You are welcome to visit your child’s group during their time with Blueprints, but your visit will be limited to a 20-minute observation period that has been pre-scheduled with the Program Director. We also understand that leaving your child can be a difficult experience and we acknowledge that you have the right to view your child and his or her activities at any time. To circumvent the interruption to the group with a site visitation, and to allow flexible observations, we have installed web-based cameras for you to view your child’s activities any time at a remote location.

Illness

Our facility is operated under a well-child mindset. We do not feel that your child can learn his or her best when feeling ill. Nor do we want your child to catch illnesses from other children. If your child has had a fever over 100 degrees, skin rash, vomiting, diarrhea, a runny nose with thick and/or colored mucus, excessive cough, head lice, chicken pox and/or any symptoms of any other contagious disease within the past 24 hours, please keep him or her at home in order to allow recuperation from the illness. If your child displays any of these symptoms during their time at Blueprints Learning Center, our staff will call and ask that you please come to take your child home. Until you arrive, he/she will be cared for in an isolated area in order to curb the spread of illness. Children should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to Blueprints Learning Center.

Discipline

Blueprints Learning Center is committed to a “Positive Discipline” policy. Positive discipline encourages self-respect, self-discipline, cooperation, and problem solving skills. We encourage problem solving by using words instead of actions, and teach negotiation techniques and consideration of our friends’ feelings.

Despite our preventative measures, conflicts do arise. In this situation, teacher help facilitate resolution and redirect the behavior of the children involved. An important part of our ongoing teacher to parent communication is to keep you aware of your child’s behavior at Blueprints Learning Center. If necessary, in the case of repeated conflicts, the teacher and parent(s) will meet to discuss a course of action to promote more desirable behavior in the child. If the problem persists beyond the best interests of the child and Blueprints Learning Center, the director will require the parents to seek professional help from a child psychologist or therapist to rectify the behavior. In certain situations the child may be asked to leave.

**Behaviors such as biting, kicking, hitting, punching, and spitting are not tolerated. If your child engages in any of these behaviors and the teacher or assistant feels the child can not be redirected quickly then he or she will be placed in the “thinking chair” immediately without previous requests. Once time has elapsed and the staff and students have had a few minutes to “think,” then the staff member will review the situation with your child to check for understanding and your child will then be allowed to return to the group.

Confidential Records

Blueprints Learning Center stresses the importance of protecting the rights and privacy of children, their families, and our teachers. The practice of maintaining the confidentiality of verbal information and written records is a policy of our school. Due to the confidential nature of the information gathered on your child, only the Program Director and Teacher will have access to your child’s file. No information from that file or gathered on your child will be shared with outside persons at any time either in written or verbal format.
